Dermal fillers are substances which are injected below the surface of the skin to plump it up, firm it and iron out the lines and wrinkles on the surface. Dermal fillers fill areas of the face where volume has been lost due to aging to give a natural, youthful appearance. They can also fill deep scars to improve the contour of your face and even fill out your cheeks.
Dermal fillers are injectables. This means that your doctor injects and eases the smooth substances under the skin with a very fine needle to fill or augment the dermis. Dermal filler injections usually take ten to fifteen minutes, a considerably quick way to refresh your appearance by restoring lost volume and filling in wrinkles and folds, especially those caused by the aging process.
There are two main types of dermal fillers: permanent and temporary. Silicone and polyacrylamide gel are examples of permanent dermal fillers used. Several types of temporary dermal fillers are available today, with collagen, hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite fillers making up three of the main categories.
